History of Semarang State University (UNNES)



Semarang State University (UNNES) is a public university organized by the Ministry of Education to implement academic and professional education in a number of disciplines, technology, sports, arts, and culture.
UNNES has been established since 1965 in the city of Semarang, the old town which is the capital of the province of Central Java. With seven colleges and one graduate program, currently educating UNNES no less than 22,000 students spread in tiers program Diploma, Bachelor, and Graduate Studies.

Historical development of Semarang State University, formerly known as IKIP Semarang have begun with the establishment of teacher training institutions in the SMTA. Teacher education institutions are: Middelbaar Onderwijzer A Cursus (MO-A) and B Middelbaar Onderwijzer Cursus (MO-B). Both are institutions prepared by the Dutch colonial government that aims to prepare teachers SMTP and SMTA. Course MO-A and MO-B held in Semarang until 1950. With Government Regulation no. 41/1950, MO-A Course be Course Course MO-BI and B-II B course be held until 1960.

Further developments can be seen Unnes stages as follows.
1. Period 1960-1963:
Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (Guidance and Counseling) and High School Sports (STO). Dated January 1, 1961, by the Decree of the Secretary-General of the Department of Education Culture No. dab. 108 487 / S dated December 27, 1960, Course BI and B-II courses are integrated into the University of Diponegoro become a Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (Guidance and Counseling). In 1963, the Department of Physical Education which was originally part of the course was split into a B-II High School Sports (STO), which stood alone under the Ministry of Sports. These changes are based on Decree No.23 of 1963 dated Sport 19 April 1963.
2. Period 1963-1965:
Institute teacher and Education (Teacher Training Institute) in Yogyakarta branch of Semarang. While FKIP Undip running programs within the structure of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science (PTIP), in 1962 by the Ministry of Basic Education and Teaching (PD & C) was also educational institutes new teacher, that Instiut Teacher Education (IPG) with the functions and the same purpose as FKIP. To avoid dualism in teachers pendiidkan higher education, the President, with decision No.. 1/1963 dated January 3, 1963, bringing together a IKIP FKIP and IPG equivalent to university within the Department of PTIP. On the basis of the Presidential Decree, the Minister of PTIP mendiirkan IKIP through Ministerial Decree No. PTIP. 55 year 1963 dated May 22, 1963. As a follow up was issued Decree Bersma PTIP Minister and Minister of PD & K No.. 32 of 1964, dated May 4, 1964 on the unification FKIP and IPG in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Malang in the Teachers' Training College. With the merger of Guidance and Counseling and a IKIP IPG, while FKIP Undip and FKIP Undip Surakarta branch rated yet can stand alone, then out the Ministerial Decree No. PTIP. 35 Year 1964 on May 4, 1964 which provides: FKIP Undip be IKIP Semarang and Yogyakarta branch FKIP Undip be IKIP Yogyakarta branch Surakarta Surakarta branch.
3. Period 1965-1999: IKIP Semarang
            IKIP Yogyakarta branch Semarabg thrive. In order to better focus its development in the future, pending the Presidential Decree, the Minister of PTIP promulgated Decree No. PTIP. 40 year 1965 dated March 8, 1965, which sets IKIP Yogyakarta became IKIP Semarang Semarang branch consisting of the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Teaching Literature and the Arts, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of exact sciences Teaching and Teacher Training Faculty of Engineering. Furthermore, the establishment of IKIP Semarang was strengthened by Presidential Decree. 271 of 1965 dated 14 September 1965.
Through the Minister of Education and Culture No.. 042/O/77 dated February 22, 1977 PE teacher education program back to the parent in a new vessel called the Teaching Faculty of Sport Science (FKIK).
Under Presidential Decree. 52/1982, IKIP Semarang has six faculties: the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Education and Language Arts, Social Sciences Faculty of Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, and the Faculty of Physical Education and Health.
4. Period 1999-2007:  State University of Semarang (Unnes)
           With the issuance of the presidential decree Number 124 of 1999 on the change IKIP Semarang, Bandung and Medan to university, then called IKIP Semarang Semarang State University abbreviated Unnes. Based on the Ministry of Education and Culture No.. 278/O/1999 about the organization and functioning of the Unnes and no. 255/O/2000 tengang Unnes statute, the names of faculty in Unnes are: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Language and Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Sport Sciences, and Graduate Program.
Under license from the Directorate General of Higher Education No.. 1850/D/T/2006, dated June 6, 2006 and the Decree of the Rector Unnes number 59/O/2006 dated June 8, 2006, stand Faculty of Economics (Governmental) which was inaugurated on June 29, 2006 by the Rector Unnes. Under license from the Directorate General of Higher Education No.. ... / D/T/2007, date ... then formed Faculty of Law Unnes Unnes unveiled by the Chancellor on December 14, 2007.
With the establishment of two new faculty, it currently manages eight Unnes faculty and one graduate program.
